The sunnier side of your house should have thick curtains to block the sunlight from heating up your room too much and on the other side you can always use fabrics like net or lace. The design that you choose completely depends on which room you are doing the curtains in. If it is the kid’s room then you should choose something like cartoons or alphabets or numbers or animals etc. If it’s the master bedroom then the curtains should add to the grace of the room, you can have big motifs or designs and the guest room curtains should be subtle and in warm colors. The design completely depends on your liking but you should also remember that the functionality of the curtain should be maintained.
Some curtains require some lining at the back to make them thick. In this case, cut the lining material of the same length as the curtain fabric. Pin the two fabrics with their plain sides facing each other. Sew the two materials together at the border with a sewing machine. Fold the edges at least half an inch inwards along three sides and then hem sew it using the sewing machine. Only one of the shorter sides should be left unstitched. However if you want to add drapery weights on the bottom side of the curtain you should leave it unstitched too.
The holes in the curtain go through the curtain rod and hold the curtain in place. Although the curtain panel looks immaterial or demure, this main feature of grommet curtains makes them fully functional. Due to this you can easily slide over the curtains from one side to another with ease. Moreover, the curtains come with natural folds that make their hanging very easy.
